Description
Sculptex™ is a versatile sculpting medium and utility clay series. Its smooth, silky texture makes it an ideal consistency for detailed sculpting. Sculptex™ supports mold making processes as clay registration keys, mold walls or parting shims and can be used to quickly plug leaks, embed objects and more. The Extra Soft hardness is slightly tacky in feel with better adhesion to surfaces. Sculptex™ is a sister product of the Clayette™ series with identical properties. It holds excellent detail and is great for precision sculpting, prototyping and model making. Sculptors who have used Sculptex™ say that it’s the perfect replacement for Klean Klay.

Working with the clay
Sculptex™ is not self-supporting so an armature will need to be constructed for figurative work. Traditional wood and metal clay tools are recommended for working with the clay.

Smoothing the clay
Clay Rake tools are often used to initially smooth out the clay surface and make it uniform. Naptha, clear mineral spirits, or 99% isopropyl alcohol on the surface of the clay will help to attain a smooth surface. Citrus based solvents can also be used but may cause inhibition when molding the clay using silicone rubber.

Softening the clay
Sculptex™ Soft & Extra Soft clays are optimized for use at room temperature 73°F/23°C, but will soften further when warmed. Sculptex™ Medium & Hard are firmer clays that can be easily warmed to a temperature of 115°F/46°C to soften for easier handling and workability. When clay returns to room temp, it also returns to the initial firmness.

Clean up
Sculptex™ can be cleaned from tools and surfaces with naptha or 99% Isopropyl alcohol. Clay can bond to fabrics and stain clothing.

Hygiene
Wash hands with soap and water after use.

Best Storage Practices
Unopened - store Chavant clay unopened at room temperature away from sunlight or sources of UV.
Opened - Once opened, place clay in airtight container or wrap completely in plastic wrap and store away from sunlight or sources of UV.
